Installing the program files

You need physical access to the client machine.
When on the client machine, download the setup file for the client side service.
When the download completes, run it and follow the instructions to complete installation.

Service startup notification configuration

When the LAN Send client side service starts a small notification dialog is displayed in the upper right corner of the users screen for about five seconds.
If you do not want the notification dialog to be displayed you can configure this by modifying a .INI file.

Browse the the programs directory ('C:\Program Files\C:\program files\LAN Send client service' by default) and create a new file called 'HIDE.INI'.
Open the file with notepad and type 'YES' on the first line and save the file. Leave the rest of the file empty.
The next time the service starts the notification dialog will not be displayed.

Starting the program with Windows log on

Once the installation has completed you must allow the program to run when Windows logs on.
To do this, you must first browse to the startup programs directory (C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USER NAME]\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\).
Click 'Start' > 'Programs' and then double-click 'Startup'. This takes you to the startup programs directory.

In this directory, you need to create a shortcut to the client side program executable file.
In a blank space, right-click and choose 'New' > 'Shortcut'.
After creating the new shortcut, you are asked to provide the path to a file.
Assuming you installed the client side program to the default directory, enter the following file path "C:\Program Files\LAN Send client service\LAN Send client.exe".

The client side program is now configured to run when windows logs on.

Installing the program as a Windows Service (optional)

If the client systems have many different users, it may be beneficial to install the program as a Windows Service.
The service can be added manually via the command line interface on a Windows XP system.

To do this click 'Start' > 'Run...'.
The run dialog appears. In the text space provided, type 'cmd', and click 'OK'.
A command line interface will appear.
In the command line interface, type the following:

sc create "NetSendClient" binPath= "C:\Program Files\LAN Send client service\LAN Send client.exe"

Press the return key to execute the command.

Deleting the Windows Service (If applicable - see above)

To delete the program from the Windows Services do the following.

Click 'Start' > 'Run...'.
The run dialog appears. In the text space provided, type 'cmd', and click 'OK'.
A command line interface will appear.
In the command line interface, type the following:

sc delete "NetSendClient"

Press the return key to execute the command.

Preventing the initialization dialog from being displayed

By default when the client program initializes, a small notification dialog is displayed in the upper left of the client monitor for a brief period.
If you wish to prevent the notification dialog from being displayed follow these instructions:

Browse to the program directory.
Create a file called 'HIDE.INI' at the same level as the executable.
Open 'HIDE.INI' with notepad. On the first line type the string 'YES'.
Save the file.

When the program next runs, a notification dialog will not be displayed.
